The Secret to Success – How to Be More Successful

This morning I listened to an audio of The Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale, a book I had read some twenty years ago. There is a reason this book is still on the must read list of great minds. People often ask, how come some people seem to have all the luck and I don’t seem to be able to get ahead. The answer is explained in this book. While I have included a pdf download at the bottom of this blog, here are the Cliff notes.

ONE
~ Master your thoughts ~
They say master your thoughts, I like to refer to it as becoming more selective of your thoughts. Thoughts are there, all the time, even when we sleep and our thoughts shape our future. It has taken a lifetime to condition your mind to be negative. Doubt and fear underlie the thoughts of most if they don’t actually take over all together. It’s also become a habit for many to focus on the problem, spending much more time engaged in those thoughts than selecting thoughts that are conducive to finding a solution. It takes time and practice to get really good at being able to select positive, solution based thoughts, yet it is the very first step mentioned in the book.

TWO
~ Create Strong Empowering Beliefs ~

Changing your belief system is the foundation that all success is built on. You must be able to imagine a thing, create it in your mind, before you can bring it into your existence. You can only imagine a thing if you believe it is possible. Therefore, to do what seems impossible, you must believe that all things are possible. Not an easy task when so many of the things we have been told or experienced cause us to start believing that we are limited and have limitations. It takes time to develop a new habit, and you will find this investment to be one of your greatest investments in yourself and your future that you will ever make.

THREE
~ Think in Terms of Opportunities and Possibilities ~

Of course, I am paraphrasing what I listened to, but that is the idea they convey. I know how being able to think in terms of possibilities and opportunities will create such a degree of success that others will call you lucky and wonder why everything always seems to go your way. And things will be going your way when you spend the time to develop the skill of solution based thinking. This works because when you are focused on the problem 50% of the time and focused on the solution 50% of the time it will take you twice as long to find the right answer and you will miss many other opportunities during that time.

I loved listening to this audio because these are the result people get with my Train Your Brain program does. It allows you to transcend your life to the point where you feel like you have magic powers because everything is so fun, fast and easy.

FOUR
~ Save 10% of Everything You Make ~

I wish I had started this practice the first time I read this book. Actually, I did save it, then I would spend it when there was something big I felt would make my life better. Perhaps it should say save 10% of everything you make and do not touch it EVER. After a lifetime of doing this, you will be receiving some great pay outs on the principle!

~ Take Action ~

When you are taking action, it is important to happily put 100% into everything you do. There is something about putting your all into actions that activates the universe to bring you what you truly want. This works because when the universe knows you are giving your all with the little things, it wants to bring you the big things.

Clarity Brings Success

When it comes to success, happiness, financial security and most things in life, the more clear you get on what you want and why you want it, the faster you will achieve that goal.

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

If you are looking for a new home you have to know how many bedrooms and bathrooms you want. Do you want a pool? Do you have special requirements about storage, kitchen space or yard space? If you were to tell a realtor that you want a new house and that is all, it is too vague for them to be able to help you. The clearer you become on the details, the more closely they be able to match you with a home that suits your needs.

Clarity Houses

If you wish to release some extra pounds you have been holding onto, how many pounds do you wish to release and when do you want to be free of that weight? Date it! When you put a date on when you intend to accomplish this goal by, it makes it real.

This is especially true when it comes to financial and career goals. People want to make more money. They want more clients. You may wish for more money and find a dollar on the sidewalk. You may wish for more clients but perhaps you really want clients who are easy to work with that pay on time.

Clarity

Get clear. How much do you want to make each month? Is it free and clear or is that before taxes? Awesome. Now figure out what your expenses are and how much you will need to bring in to clear the amount you have decided on. Then decide what service or value you will give to others which will allow you to receive the amount you desire. If you are not exactly sure what you will do to earn it yet, that is alright. With total faith that it will happen, the answers and opportunities will come to you.

You also want to get clear on your why. Why do you want to eat better? Is it for your health, so you feel good, so you fit into your old jeans? Do you want more money so you can visit your loved ones who don’t live near? Do you have a charity that you wish to help out financially?

Being clear on what you want and why you want it will cause you to be more motivated, which is important because your motivation level will determine the amount of effort you will put into your goal. It also keeps you excited about achieving the outcome, which will keep you vibrating at the frequency of success and attracting more good things to you!

Are You A Rock Star?

YOU ARE A ROCK STAR IF…

A ROCK STAR is a person who knows they have unique skills and wisdom to offer the world and they are courageous enough to take their stage. A ROCK STAR never settles and always finds a way to get what they want while providing great value to their fans. ROCK STAR’s know that they will achieve super star status when they practice their craft until it looks easy.

Then they just have fun doing what they love to do.

I love the commercial that Intel put out four years ago. It features a man, Ajay Bhatt – co-inventor of the USB, walking into the break room. The other employees stop to stare, the women start to swoon over this rock star in the field of technology.

What does it take to be a rock star in your field and to get rock star results?

It comes from having the right attitude. You get the right attitude from having the right beliefs, or believing in yourself and your abilities. You get a better belief system when you select better thoughts.

This is why the single most important skill you can develop is solution based thinking.

As kids, we have this ability and we tend to be very happy. When we get older, our parents, teacher, friends and other well-meaning people will tell us all about our limitations, and we begin to believe them. So the voice in our head wavers between the voice of our soul, telling us to pursue our passions and live the life we are meant to live, and the voice of doubt telling us not to take chances or risk. We move one step forward and two steps back, staying stuck in the rut of mediocrity. We feel like we are on a hamster wheel, working so hard for so little.

Like all skills that we take the time to practice and strengthen, solution based thinking is the skill that will set you free. When you learn to think in terms of possibilities and opportunities, you will start noticing more opportunities and possibilities. That when you get in this cool zone where the right people and circumstances will always appear right when you need them. Life becomes so much easier, you get much better results for your efforts and you enjoy life more.

When faced with a challenge or issue, acknowledge it and notice what needs your attention. What is the problem? Now move onto the solution and stay there. Do not focus on the problem again. You may wish to also ask, how can this situation be prevented from happening again, yet once that is brought up, turn immediately to solutions.

Rock Stars get to where they are because think about and talk about how to get things done, how to get to where they want to be. If something doesn’t work out, they try it a new way. They keep getting better by practicing and they only take yes for an answer. They find a way to make things happen because that’s all they focus on.

Find a way to make things happen by staying in the solution. Get so good at what you do, offer so much value, that your clients – or should I say raving fans, will want to induct you, their favorite rock star, in A HALL OF FAME ALL OF YOUR OWN!

Get Good at One Thing ~ Repeat

If you want to become a successful entrepreneur, there are many things you will need to learn. I love working with women wo are beginners or boomers that want more out of life and are willing to do what it takes, even though they are not yet sure what it will take. They are brave women who are courageous enough to take action despite the doubts of others as well as self-doubt. When I work with women entrepreneurs who are just getting in the game, overwhelm can set in and it can be easy to get discouraged because there is so much to do.

One of the biggest mistakes that a new entrepreneur can do is trying to do it all… at once.

I took a business mastery course where I learned a lot. During one of the online classes we were being told we need to be on Facebook to connect, set up LinkedIn and get active there, probably Twitter, start blogging, do videos and out them on Youtube, then share to your social media, write a free eBook to give away on your website, make sure you have great pictures, come up with a funnel, write a speech… you get the idea.

 

The faint of heart would wilt before they finished hearing the list. When it was Q&A time, I pointed out that there are only so many hours in a day, what is most important and what should be done first?

 

I was told they were all important and we had to do them all.

 

Whaaaaa???????

 

The truth? Start with one thing, get good at it and when it is easy to do, repeat.

If your goal is to learn five new languages so you can become a foreign ambassador, you would not take five languages courses at once! It would get way too confusing and you would not do well at any of them.

It is the reason I am developing a great radio program, My Success Zone Radio. I used the word “developing” for a reason. Since I have done three radio shows in the past, two on AM radio and one on the internet, it would be easy for me to not pay attention to details.

For example, not to point out my flaws, but… when the introduction was recorded, it ran the full 30 seconds, as does the music I use in the background. While this is acceptable, I know it would sound just a little better – more pleasing for my listeners – if there was a second or two of music before my voice over guy begins and a second or two after his finishes speaking. So I just paid to have it redone.

  1. I was hosting My Success Zone Radio on Blogtalk and found a better solution (better financially as well as a much better SEO choice). So I am taking the time to switch it.
  2. I’m automating the notifications and posters that are shared on social media so others will know about and be able to benefit from the great interviews.
  3. I am creating a place where those in my inner circle will be able to listen to replays for some time before they are archived.

I have many other fun projects coming up, yet I know that I want to keep my focus here until all the details are taken care of. When you learn to really focus, it happens quickly.

Get Good

The point is, I invite you to consider getting really good at one thing. It will build your confidence and your motivation. With practice, things do get easier and when it becomes natural and effortless, you can conquer the next step, bridging the gap between where you are and where you want to be rather than running around trying to do it all and not doing anything well.

How to Get Better Results by Pretending

Seriously, you can get better results by pretending.

I know I am not alone in my love for daydreaming. It keeps us young when we think in terms of “anything is possible”, and in our imagination, it certainly is. The most successful people in the world use their imaginations to create new innovations and find solutions. The imaginations is where music, stories, plays come from. Imagination brings life to life.

Pretending is extending your imagination into physical reality. I use the phrase “pretend is your friend”, because it can be a valuable skill that will help you accomplish more, in less time and with greater ease. If you want to know how to get better results, imagination is key.

Let’s consider a scenario where you are feeling a little resistant to cleaning the house and want to get motivated and get it over with quickly. You keep thinking about the dishes in the sink, the floors that need to be vacuumed and mopped, the counters that need to be wiped down, the bathrooms that need to be done. You are exhausted just thinking about it from the sofa where you are making your list so you won’t forget any task (and you can delay the start, showing yourself how much work it is all going to be).

Now imagine that you get phone call. The person calling is someone important to you they say they are coming over and will be there in an hour. Go!

When this really happens, our mind jumps right into action. We stop thinking about why we do not want to clean the house, in this example, and just jump into action.

The same can hold true for rewards. Think back to when you were a teen. Your friends call and say they are going to the beach and will be at your place to pick you up at 10:30. You tell your mom and she says, “You are going anywhere until your room is spotless and your homework is done!”

Suddenly you figure out how to do six hours of work in two.

Taking the time to condition your mind to think in a way that will produce better results will take time. This is one way to use the power of your mind to create better results in all you do. When you jump into enthusiastic action, and do not pause to consider the downside, you will reach your goals with lightning speed and you will get better results than ever before.

 

Gain Confidence by Getting Out Of Your Head

Neuro linguistics, or the language of the mind, never ceases to fascinate me. We do have all the resources we need inside of us, and when you know how your mind works, you can map your way to the unlimited solutions and possibilities that lie within.

People believe in people

Being confident provides you with more opportunities because people believe in people who believe in themselves! Confidence makes you feel good too. There are many ways to become confident, yet the strategy I am going to share with you is powerful and can be used in so many different ways.

 

Nervousness and fear push confidence out. Just as turning on the light in a room causes the darkness to vanish, when we understand our less than supportive feelings, we can vanquish the fear and allow the confidence to shine brightly as well.

The reason we get nervous is that we are afraid that we will not do well, that people will laugh at us or reject our ideas and we are not sure we are capable or as capable as others are. WE TAKE THINGS PERSONALLY.

Today’s focus is on not taking it personally if you do not get the desired outcome.

Ever notice how it is easier to give others advice than to have a clear path for yourself? This happens in business and relationships. This is because we take things personally. When you do not get a desired outcome, you label it, and yourself, a failure. You cannot see that the only failure is when you don’t try and that you are always gaining and winning when you put effort towards a worthy goal.

Bring to mind your child. If you don’t have kids of your own, think of a niece or neighborhood child you are fond of. If that child came to you asking you for advice, you would look at the situation objectively, with no personal involvement other than wanting what is best for the little one. You would consider her situation, try to view it from all angles, come up with as many solutions as possible, find the best one, probably have a back-up plan or two to share with her, let her know that no matter what the outcome is that as long as she tries her best, she will gain valuable skills to make her better and better. This is logical thought process and without personal emotional attachment, our skills of reasoning are much more proficient.

Disassociation is brilliant in its simplicity. It works because you take yourself out of the equation, thus taking the emotion out of the equation.

1. Find a quiet spot where you can have a few minutes to yourself.

2. Bring to mind a situation that has you upset or nervous.

3. Close your eyes and imagine that situation. When you do, imagine it as if you are above the scene and looking down. See yourself as if you are watching a movie.

4. Notice what is going on as you see the situation play out in front of you, but no matter what someone says or does, or how things turn out, simply notice what is happening.

5. Now think of all the positive that is in this situation. What did you learn that you can use in the future? What possible solution could work in this situation? Explore all possibilities and assure the person in the movie you are watching (you) of all the good in the situation.

By not taking the situation personally, you will not label yourself a failure. You will instead do your best and recognize that you gained a lot. This is keep your self-esteem and confidence from eroding when things don’t seem to go your way. The more you deal with challenging situations in an effective and productive way, the more your confidence will soar.

Teaching children to think this way is important, especially girls. In females, the amygdala, or area of the brain responsible for worrying is much more active than in males. When you introduce those interesting hormones on top of that, you have a recipe for high drama and taking everything personally. The long term damage can be staggering.

Practice this and share with your children. The best way to protect your kids is to teach them to protect themselves.

How to Build Confidence and Self-Esteem Doing Nothing

We are always looking for ways to improve ourselves, it’s just in our nature. Knowing how to build confidence is valuable because confident people will live happier, healthier more successful lives. Confidence produces an energy that supercharges our goals and our lives. We feel good when we are confident and that also bolsters our self-esteem, another valuable asset for living a fulfilling and meaningful life.

Without confidence
• You will not attempt new things that will allow you to grow
• You will feel that you have less value as a person
• You create limiting beliefs and settle for less than you deserve and can have in life
• The stress of being asked to do things you are not comfortable with will release toxins into your system and make you unhealthy
• Worry becomes an overwhelming side-effect
• Eventually you will wallow in regret for things you were too afraid to do
• You think in terms of why you can’t do things rather than how to make it happen, thus sabotaging yourself

Confidence and self-esteem are so important to the quality of your existence and I am going to tell you one of the top things you can do to gain confidence.

NOTHING.

Seriously, nothing! Most people call this nothing meditation.

Ask yourself, is it worth 30 minutes a day, (15 in the morning and 15 at night), to have a calmer, happier, more organized, satisfying and successful life where I feel better mentally physically and spiritually? And in this time all I have to do is nothing.

I don’t have to be psychic to know that most sane people will answer a resounding YES! Even some not so sane people will as well. I mean, with all the responsibilities and things on the 2 page to do list, who wouldn’t like a few minutes a day to do nothing?

There’s no shame in this game either, because you actually are doing something by doing nothing. Those who meditate on a regular basis have always reported being calmer, lower blood pressure, increased clarity and energy, and a plethora of other mental and physical benefits. Now science is backing it all up.

Neuro scientists have been studying the amygdala, the region in the brain associated with worry and regret, for decades. During their research it was discovered that regular meditation calmed the activity in this area of our brain and over an extended period those who engaged in regular meditation were able to manage stress better.

This is especially important for women since we are physically wired to be more nervous and less confident than men. We also release a lot of cortisol when we stress and worry and this makes us gain weight.

So why is it a great idea to do nothing a couple times a day and have a clear conscious about taking that time for yourself?
• Weight loss
• Calmer thoughts
• Happier overall
• Less worry and regret making room for positive, supportive thoughts
• Lower blood pressure
• Lower stress
• Healthier heart
• Better lung capacity
• More clarity
• Stronger focus
• Builds confidence
• Supports self-esteem

• Better health
• Closer spiritual connection
• Better relationships
• More successful in achieving goals
• Fulfillment of leading a meaningful life
• You just plain feel better about yourself and your life

Once you decide to give yourself this gift, you will want to start right away. I will give you the brief version of how to get started. Feel free to comment, ask questions or look for future blogs on the subject. Since it is the fastest and easiest way to gain confidence and self-esteem, I will be devoting a bit of attention to meditation and ways to deepen your meditation.

1. Pick a time of day in the morning and in the evening.
2. Select a quiet place where you will be free of distractions.
3. Wear loose, comfortable clothes.
4. If you are first starting, I recommend selecting a guided meditation. That way you can let go of all your thoughts and focus on the voice.
5. Be sure to turn off all cell phones.
6. Tell your mind before you begin that you will be meditating for 15 minutes (or the length of the meditation recording) and that everything else can wait until you are done.

If your thoughts drift away from the voice, gentle dismiss the thoughts and bring your attention back to the voice.
There is no need to listen intently to the voice, just relax and let your subconscious absorb the message.
If you have an itch that seems to be intensifying, gently scratch it and return your focus to the voice.
Relax, enjoy, get healthy, happy and shine your light bright!
